1982 SUZUKI RM125
1982 SUZUKI RM125

This auction is for a 1982 Suzuki RM125Z Motocross bike, with a clear California title and a valid off highway green sticker until June 2014.

Ideal bike to build into a GP/Evo vintage class race bike, my intention was to fully restore the bike but I now have an earlier bike to restore, so the ’82 is available for sale.

I haven’t touched the bike other than to have the tank polished and to apply new tank graphics (which bubbled up like the original graphics when new as soon as you put gas in the tank). The bike runs strong and climbs uphills better than the RM125D I had new in 1983, but if you know your RM125 history, the 1981 and 1982 water cooled RM125’s were the best 125’s available when they came out.

The fenders and side panels are aftermarket Maier items, and match the original Suzuki colors (unlike some Maier plastics I have seen) and are ideal for racing to save scratching up OEM plastics. The rear of the front fender has some scratches where it has caught the wire mesh screen that protects the radiator, looks like it was mounted incorrectly when the holes were drilled in the aftermarket fender (front fender is also a 1980/81 style fender). The front number plate is OEM but looks to be from a 1984/85 RM. Tank and radiator covers are all original 1982 OEM items. The seat has an original aftermarket Hi-Flite blue seat cover (stock should be black). Bars are aftermarket stock style black versions with Scott grips and OEM levers and throttle.

Motor hasn’t been touched, runs strong, but I would recommend going through it if you intend on racing. The chassis, all wheel bearings and suspension bearings are free from play. Front forks still have their original OEM fork boots, although one of them has an inch downward tear. Rear shock needs to be serviced as it is working purely on the spring, so it will need an oil and nitrogen service for correct compression damping. Swing arm still has the original Full Floater decals on it, although they are faded and scratched. Frame has no dents, no cracks and no re-welds, although the small steering stop tab is missing.

Wheels are original and spin straight and true, although some spokes are oxidized. Tires are Dunlops, they are fine if you were to play ride, but to race, ideally you’d mount the correct rubber to suit the terrain that you’re racing on, likewise with the chain and sprockets.

Like with most 1981-82 RM’s, the airbox side covers have been drilled to aid airflow, which was the done thing back in the day to let the motor breathe.

Pipe and silencer are original, the pipe has a dent on it’s right side. The silencer had had an aftermarket spark arrestor mounted, so it has 2 small holes where the spark arrestor was mounted with sheet metal screws (I still have the spark arrestor and will include that with the bike). DG still manufacturers a pipe and aluminum silencer for the ’82 RM125, so you can easily swap out the OEM items to get some extra performance for racing.

Bike is sold ‘as-is’.

Collection/Shipping

Buyer to arrange collection and shipping (Collection from Fullerton, Ca 92832). Uship is an excellent source for quotes http://www.uship.com/motorcycles/ or come and pick it up in person.

International bids are welcome, but you have to arrange your own collection and shipping. The bike has a clear title and paperwork so there are no problems in shipping the bike. If you regularly ship bikes then you already know that procedure for dismantling a bike and shipping it as parts, shipping rates are usually cheaper but you have to dismantling and crating. Able Cargo is very reliable and cost effective shipping company http://www.ablecargo.com/ based in SoCal, for UK buyer’s contact Alan Shores at http://www.kingstown-shipping.co.uk/ where he can arrange shipping for you, or usually any shipping into the UK, the customs paperwork and clearance is handled by Kingstown for a fast, hassle free service (all customs and shipping fees are the responsibility of the byer)

If collection is a problem, I can drop the bike off at a nearby shipper for crating and shipping, for this service the cost will be $30.00 for delivery to a company within 5 miles, anymore than 5 miles to shippers in the Long Beach/Los Angeles area, an additional 50 cents per mile round trip is added to the $30.00 to cover gas and time.
